At the morning meeting, more and more newsrooms go through the previous day's central statistics from the web, such as the number of published articles and their sources.
The same kind of statistical information can also be obtained regarding the printed newspaper with Neo's automatic reporting.
This means that the printed newspaper's central key figures are always available and can, for example, be compared with the information on articles published online.
Neo's automatic report collects information every day about, among other things
– printed quantity of the newspaper's article and picture
– ad percentage and
– the distribution of articles, images and graphics in different sections.
It also shows
– what part of the printed newspaper's articles, pictures and graphics have been the editor's own production or come from partners or news agencies, and
– how published articles / images / graphics are distributed to different sources.
The report can also contain customer-specific information – for example information about the amount of news regarding different locations.
The distribution of places can be followed according to the newspaper's largest distribution places or districts, if the newspaper marks them as the place for the articles.
All information in the report can be browsed on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
The information can be read online or directly in Neo. Access to the information can be customized depending on the user.
If the editorial staff uses the ShiftNG system for their work shifts, the report can also contain information about work shifts performed.
The automatic reporting is used at Turun Sanomat, among others, which accompanies the quantities of articles at various departments.
– The report was useful most recently when the corona epidemic broke out. We then needed to follow the development of the number of pages when the range of sports and culture changed drastically, says editor-in-chief Kari Vainio.
– With the help of the report, we were able to follow how the departments' number of pages in the printed newspaper developed and how, for example, the use of freelancers changed.
